Brow shaping is part of it, not an extra. Then lip, chin, cheeks and jawline, plus the sides of the face where fine hair catches the light and makes foundation look patchy.

Booked separately these add up to well over eighty dollars, which is the point of doing them together.

What to expect

Allow a proper appointment rather than a quick stop. Desiree cleanses the skin, works through each area with the wax suited to it, and finishes with something soothing.

You'll be pink afterwards, more than with a single small wax, simply because more skin has been worked on. It settles within a few hours. Don't book this for an hour before an event — the day before is ideal.

Before you come in

Let the hair grow to about a quarter of an inch, roughly two weeks.

Tell Desiree when you book if you use a retinoid, Accutane, or any prescription acne treatment. These thin the skin and waxing over them can lift it. That matters more here than on a single small area, because the wax is covering most of your face.

Aftercare

For 24 hours, no makeup, no heat, no saunas or steam rooms, and stay out of direct sun. For 48 hours, keep acids and exfoliants off your face entirely.

Hands off. Freshly waxed skin over a large area picks up bacteria easily, and that's where the odd post-wax spot comes from.

How long does it last?

Three to four weeks for most people, depending on your hair growth.

Does the whole face hurt more than one area?

It's more time, not more pain. Each individual area is quick, and the sensitive spots are done with hard wax, which is gentler.

Will my skin break out afterwards?

Occasionally, yes. A spot or two after a large-area wax isn't unusual. Keeping your hands off and skipping makeup for a day makes it far less likely.

Will facial hair grow back thicker?

No. That's a myth about shaving. Waxing takes hair from the root and regrowth tends to come back finer over time.

Can I do this if I've had a facial recently?
